Frequently asked questions

Got questions about our eco-conscious moving services? Find answers to commonly asked questions below:

We strongly recommend using specialist piano movers. Pianos are not just heavy – they’re awkwardly weighted, fragile internally, and require specialist equipment (piano boards, proper straps, tail-lift vans) that general removals companies don’t have.

A general removal team might quote you less, but the risk of damage to your piano, your property (walls, banisters, floors), or injury to the movers is significantly higher. Our insurance, equipment and training are designed specifically for piano moving.

Piano moving costs depend on:

  • Piano type (upright, baby grand, grand, concert grand)
  • Access at both properties (ground floor, stairs, narrow hallways)
  • Distance between properties
  • Parking and access restrictions

Typical London piano moving costs:

  • Upright piano: £200-£350
  • Baby grand piano: £400-£600
  • Grand piano (6-7ft): £600-£900
  • Concert grand: £900-£1,500+

We provide fixed-price quotes after assessing your specific move. No hourly rates. No surprises on the day.

Yes. We move pianos up and down stairs regularly across London’s Victorian and period properties.

For upright pianos with internal stairs (up to 2 flights), this is standard. For grand pianos, or properties with 3+ flights of narrow stairs, we’ll do a site survey first to confirm access and equipment needs.

If stairs are extremely narrow or access is impossible, we can arrange window or door removal, or in rare cases, crane access. This is always discussed and quoted before the move.

Yes. We carry comprehensive goods-in-transit insurance up to £50,000, included as standard in every piano move.

This covers your piano from the moment we begin wrapping it to the moment it’s positioned and unwrapped in your new property. No extra charge for insurance.

If you have a particularly valuable or antique piano (over £50k), let us know and we can arrange additional coverage.

In some cases, yes – if we have availability and your move is straightforward (upright piano, ground floor to ground floor, within London).

For grand pianos or complex access situations, we typically need 2-4 days notice to ensure we have the right team and equipment scheduled.

Call us on 020 3994 2249 to check same-day availability.

Yes. We cover all of London, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent, and the wider Home Counties.

For moves outside the South East (e.g., London to Manchester, London to Scotland), we can still help – just let us know the distance when requesting your quote.

In over 5 years of moving pianos across London, we’ve maintained an exceptional safety record because we use specialist equipment, trained teams, and proper techniques.

However, if damage does occur, you’re covered by our comprehensive insurance. You’ll file a claim with documentation and photos, and we’ll make it right. Your piano’s safety is our top priority, which is why we invest in proper equipment and training.

We recommend waiting 2-4 weeks after your piano move before booking a tuner.

Why? Your piano needs time to adjust to the temperature and humidity of its new location. If you tune it immediately, it may go out of tune quickly as the wood settles.

Position your piano away from radiators, windows, and direct sunlight, and book your tuner once it’s acclimatised.

Yes. If you’re moving house but your new property isn’t ready, or you need to store your piano temporarily, we offer secure storage solutions.

We’ll move your piano into our climate-controlled storage facility and deliver it to your new property when you’re ready. Storage is charged separately – ask for a quote when you book your move.

Yes, for grand pianos and baby grands, we’ll remove the legs for safe transport and reattach them at your new property.

This is standard practice for grand piano moves – the legs are carefully removed, wrapped separately, and the piano is secured onto a piano board for transport.

For upright pianos, leg removal is usually not necessary unless access is extremely tight.
