Removals in Mill Hill
Cottages and narrow lanes on the Ridgeway, new-build flats at Millbrook Park and houses around the Broadway. We plan the hills, the school traffic and the parking before moving day.
The homes
The Ridgeway and Millbrook Park
Barnet's appraisal of the Mill Hill conservation area describes about 260 houses, including brick and weatherboard cottages, "strung out for a mile along the high ground of The Ridgeway", in green belt. The Ridgeway is fairly flat, but the land falls steeply down Highwood Hill and Milespit Hill and rises sharply at Holcombe Hill, where the pavements disappear. Some roads, such as Wills Grove, are private with restricted access, and about a third of the area is schools and institutions (Barnet Council: Mill Hill conservation area appraisal, 2008, checked 27 October 2026).
Near Mill Hill East station, Millbrook Park is a new suburb on the former Inglis Barracks, planned for 2,240 homes (Barnet Council: Mill Hill East regeneration). The plan approved in 2011 was mostly flats: 1,657 of 2,174 homes (GLA planning report PDU/2351/02).
- Steep lanes and missing pavements mean choosing the right size of vehicle and planning where it can stop safely.
- New-build flats usually mean booking the lift and loading bay with the building management. We ask about the rules when we build your inventory.
- School traffic: the appraisal says most children travel to the Ridgeway schools by car, so we avoid arriving at the school run where we can.
Parking
Parking on Moving Day in Mill Hill
Barnet suspends bays for removals at £69.63 per bay per day (a 5m length) plus a £171.39 administration fee, applied for at least 7 calendar days ahead. A moving-home dispensation lets one named vehicle park where it normally couldn't, at £51.90 per vehicle per day with 2 working days' notice (Barnet Council: suspensions and dispensations, checked 27 October 2026).
- Two parklets on The Broadway (outside numbers 24 and 26) were parking bays and can't be suspended. Barnet asks you to contact customer services first for a move near them.
- Short zone hours: around Mill Hill East station, Bittacy Road and Sanders Lane are Zone MH, Monday to Friday 10 to 11am, with extra event-day controls from 1 to 6pm. Hartley Avenue, near the Broadway, is Zone E, Monday to Friday 11am to 12 noon (Barnet TraffWeb map, data dated 26 October 2026). Check your own street on the map.
- Loading: Barnet allows loading on yellow lines for up to 40 minutes, where the kerb marks don't forbid it. Vehicles over 5 tonnes can't wait overnight from 6.30pm to 8am.
- Red routes are run by TfL, not the council: moving house is a listed reason for a TfL red route dispensation, at £48 a day per vehicle on red lines or £38 in a bay, with at least 6 working days' notice (checked 26 October 2026).
Tell us your street when you ask for a quote. We'll check whether a suspension, a dispensation or a short loading window is the right call.
