What Hampstead's Streets Mean for Moving Day
Camden Council's statement for the Hampstead conservation area describes "the striking topography which gives rise to the complex of narrow streets and steps" and the dense cluster of streets and alleys around the High Street. The ground rises to 135 metres at Whitestone Pond and falls to 60 metres at South End Green (Camden Council, Hampstead Conservation Area Statement, checked 23 October 2026).

Parking
Parking on Moving Day in Hampstead
Hampstead is in the London Borough of Camden. Camden suspends parking spaces for removals: book online at least 17 days in advance. For a house move there's no space charge for the first day only (up to 3 consecutive spaces) and no short-notice charge, but the £66.66 administration charge still applies (Camden Council: parking bay suspensions, checked 23 October 2026).
- After day 1, Camden charges per space per day by the length of the suspension, from £79.63 for 1 day to £87.61 a day for 2 to 5 days (same page).
- Suspensions are marked on the street by yellow warning signs, and you give the registration numbers of all the vehicles using the spaces.
- A trade permit at £51.86 a day may meet your needs instead: it's valid in resident bays and on single yellow lines, but not on red routes (Camden Council: trade permits, checked 23 October 2026).
- Loading: any vehicle may load or unload for up to 20 minutes in a resident permit bay, and never on yellow lines with double kerb markings (Camden Council: loading and unloading).
- Find your zone with Camden's street search. Hours vary from zone to zone.
- Red routes are different. Councils don't suspend red routes. On TfL red routes, moving house is a listed reason for a dispensation: £48 a day per vehicle on red lines or £38 in a bay, with at least 6 working days' notice (TfL red route dispensations, checked 23 October 2026).
