Riverside, Bedford Park and Mansion Blocks

Chiswick has more conservation areas than most of west London, and each one means something different on moving day (Hounslow Council: conservation area appraisals, checked 27 October 2026):

  • Strand on the Green is a "street-cum-pathway": the riverside houses front a path that floods at spring tides, and vehicles reach only Thames Road, linked to the river by narrow lanes and alleys. Many larger houses have stone steps. We plan the carry, and check the tide times.
  • Old Chiswick and Chiswick Mall are a largely Georgian riverside village, cut off from the north by the A4. Hounslow notes periodic flooding of the road along Chiswick Mall.
  • Bedford Park, begun in 1875, is mostly semi-detached houses set close to the pavement, with mansion blocks from the later phase. The west side of Woodstock Road and westward is in Ealing, so the parking rules come from a different council.
  • Turnham Green has 1930s and six-storey neo-Georgian mansion blocks, and Heathfield Terrace houses have long front gardens with steps to the door. Grove Park has a parade built around 1900 as shops with flats above.

Parking

Parking on Moving Day in Chiswick

Hounslow names house moves as a reason to suspend parking. It's £25 for the first bay plus a £40 admin fee, then £25 for each extra bay or day, applied for at least ten working days ahead. Where there are no bays outside the house, Hounslow may allow a yellow line waiver: £65 for one vehicle for one day, then £25 a day (Hounslow Council: request a parking suspension, checked 27 October 2026).

  • Zones run very different hours. Chiswick Station (CS) runs Monday to Friday 10am to 12 noon on many schedules, while Mid Chiswick (MC) and East Chiswick (EC) run Monday to Saturday 9am to 7pm, and some East Chiswick and Chiswick Mall bays run on Sundays. Hounslow publishes the hours in each zone's traffic order (Hounslow Council: traffic notices). Check the entry signs and the CPZ map.
  • Staveley Road and Hartington Road have a camera-enforced restriction, 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday, and "Access for visitors or deliveries is not permitted". Hounslow sends other traffic via the A316, A4 and Sutton Court Road (Hounslow Council: Staveley Road and Hartington Road).
  • Thames Road is an access-only zone, 8am to 7pm Monday to Saturday: a van can enter to reach a Strand on the Green address, but not drive through (Hounslow Council: South Chiswick liveable neighbourhood).
  • School Streets near Chiswick schools usually close 8.15 to 9.15am and 2.45 to 3.45pm, and removal vans aren't a listed exemption (Hounslow Council: School Streets).

Tell us your street when you ask for a quote. We'll check the zone, any camera restriction on the route and whether a suspension or a waiver is the right call.

Getting around

Stations Nearby

Nearby areas we cover: Hammersmith · Kensington.

Turnham Green, Chiswick Park and Gunnersbury are on the District line, and Piccadilly line trains call at Turnham Green only early in the morning and late in the evening. Gunnersbury is also on the London Overground Mildmay line, and Chiswick and Kew Bridge are South Western Railway stations.

After the move, Hounslow asks residents moving into, within or out of the borough to update their council tax, with old and new addresses and the moving date.

Chiswick FAQ

Moving in W4: Questions

Hounslow charges £25 for the first bay plus a £40 admin fee, then £25 for each extra bay or day, with at least ten working days' notice. A yellow line waiver is £65 for one vehicle for one day (Hounslow Council, checked 27 October 2026).

The riverside houses front a path, not a road, so vehicles stop on Thames Road and we carry down the lanes. Thames Road is access-only from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, so a van can enter to reach an address but not drive through.

Both. Hounslow's appraisal puts the west side of Woodstock Road and westward in Ealing, which has its own parking rules. Tell us your address and we'll check which council runs your street.
