Removals in Kensington
Stucco terraces over half-basements, mansion blocks with lifts, mews and parking controls that run into the evening. We plan the street, the steps and the parking before moving day.
The homes
Stucco Terraces, Mansion Blocks and Mews
The Royal Borough's appraisal of the Kensington Palace conservation area, around Notting Hill Gate and Kensington Church Street, describes "tightly packed, elegant Italianate terraces", mostly three storeys over half-basements, with later mansion blocks and surviving small roads and alleys (RBKC, Kensington Palace Conservation Area Appraisal, 2025, checked 26 October 2026). South of the High Street, the terraces of the Edwardes Square, Scarsdale and Abingdon area are three storeys over a semi-basement, and "all the mansion blocks are at least four storeys high" (RBKC, Edwardes Square, Scarsdale and Abingdon Conservation Area Appraisal, 2022, checked 26 October 2026).
- Half-basements mean steps down from the street as well as up to the front door, so we count both in the assessment.
- Mansion blocks usually mean booking the lift with the building, protecting it and agreeing loading times with the porter or managing agent.
- Mews and narrow streets limit vehicle size, and fine furniture or a piano may need dismantling or specialist handling.
Parking
Parking on Moving Day in Kensington
The Royal Borough says "You do not have to suspend parking bays to carry out domestic or office removals": a removal van can use a free bay or a single yellow line if loading is continuous and it causes no obstruction. But it also says that for a move you will most likely need to book a space outside your property, because you can't hold a space with cones or notices (RBKC: suspensions FAQs, checked 26 October 2026).
- Suspension fees: £82 per space per day for days 1 to 5, then £123 a day from day 6. A space is a marked bay or 5 metres (16 feet). There's no separate administration fee for a standard booking (RBKC: costs and payment, checked 26 October 2026).
- Notice: 10 working days for residents' bays and 2 working days for pay-by-phone bays. Short notice for residents' bays is at the council's discretion, at £408 (RBKC: notice periods). On 26 October the online form was down and applications were taken by email, so we check the application page when we book.
- Yellow lines: you can load or unload on a single yellow line for up to 40 minutes, continuously, and removal vans in constant use don't need a dispensation (RBKC: yellow line dispensations, checked 26 October 2026).
- Controls run late. RBKC's residents' parking map shows W8 controlled until 10pm on weekdays, with Saturday and, on some streets, Sunday controls too (RBKC residents' parking map, June 2026). Check the signs on your street.
- Kensington High Street (A3220) is a red route, so RBKC can't suspend bays on it. Moving house is a listed reason for a TfL red route dispensation.
Tell us your street when you ask for a quote. We'll advise whether a suspension is worth booking and plan the vehicle around the controlled hours.

Not always. RBKC says you don't have to suspend bays for a removal, and a van can load continuously in a free bay or for up to 40 minutes on a single yellow line. But spaces can't be held with cones, so for most moves the council advises booking one (RBKC, checked 26 October 2026).
