Parking

Parking on Moving Day in Shepherd's Bush

Hammersmith & Fulham suspends bays for a move at £48 per 5-metre bay for each of the first 5 chargeable days, then £74 a day. Up to six bays for up to three days needs 8 days' notice, with payment by midday on the day the notice period starts (Hammersmith & Fulham Council: suspensions, checked 28 October 2026). A chargeable day is one when the zone's controls apply, which matters here:

  • Zone G, around Shepherd's Bush Green and the Common, runs Monday to Sunday, 9am to 10pm, and Zone JJ, around Loftus Road and south of Uxbridge Road, runs Monday to Sunday, 9am to 9pm. In those zones a weekend move is still a chargeable day.
  • Zones J, V and N to the west and north run Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and Zone O around White City runs Monday to Saturday (Hammersmith & Fulham Council: zone times and charges, checked 28 October 2026). Zone boundaries come from the council's map, so check your own street on the parking zone map.
  • QPR match days: a council document lists closures and parking suspensions on South Africa Road, Ellerslie Road and Loftus Road from up to three hours before kick-off (Hammersmith & Fulham Council: QPR restrictions). We check the fixture list before booking a date near the ground.
  • The A40 Westway and the West Cross Route (A3220) are TfL roads; the Green, Uxbridge Road, Wood Lane and Goldhawk Road are council roads. Red routes are run by TfL, not the council: moving house is a listed reason for a TfL red route dispensation, at £48 a day per vehicle on red lines or £38 in a bay, with at least 6 working days' notice (checked 28 October 2026).

Loading

Loading Rules on Yellow Lines

Hammersmith & Fulham says "Loading and unloading is allowed for up to 20 minutes in parking bays and on yellow lines", where it's safe. For removals, its page adds that "A removal vehicle may stop for longer than 40 minutes on a single or double yellow line", as long as loading is continuous, no loading restriction is in force and the vehicle doesn't cause a serious obstruction. Packing or unpacking inside the home doesn't count as loading (Hammersmith & Fulham Council: loading and unloading, checked 28 October 2026).

Because the two lines on the council's page don't give one clear limit, we treat a yellow line as a back-up and plan a suspension wherever the street allows.

The homes

Terraces, Mansion Blocks and Cottage Estates

  • Shepherds Bush conservation area, designated in 1984, is mainly late-Victorian terraces with mansion blocks, and the council notes that the roads around the Common are congested by heavy traffic flows.
  • Coningham & Lime Grove has stucco villas and three-storey brick terraces, some with basements, so the carry often includes front steps and a lower floor.
  • Old Oak & Wormholt, to the north-west, is the cottage estate the London County Council bought land for in 1905: two-storey terraced houses with front gardens.
  • Wood Lane is centred on the former BBC Television Centre, now Grade II listed.

Sources: the council's conservation area profiles, checked 28 October 2026. Shepherd's Bush Market, between the Goldhawk Road and Shepherd's Bush Market stations, is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, so we plan around it for homes beside the market.
