Two councils

Islington or Camden? It Depends on the Street

Most of N19 is in Islington: Archway, Whitehall Park, Upper Holloway and the east side of Tufnell Park. Dartmouth Park and the streets west of Tufnell Park station are in Camden, and Islington's zone map shows the boundary running along Junction Road and Brecknock Road (Islington Council: controlled parking zones, checked 28 October 2026). Tell us your address and we'll confirm which council runs your street.

Parking

Parking on Moving Day in Islington

Islington lets you park outside your home free of charge when you're moving. A removal van without company livery can stay until 11am, then up to 40 minutes at a time (Islington Council: parking to move home, checked 28 October 2026). When a full day is needed, a bay suspension costs £164.80 for the first day for as many spaces as you need, £62.25 per space on day 2 and £67.50 per space a day after that, applied for at least 14 days ahead (Islington Council: suspend a parking bay, checked 28 October 2026).

  • Zone P, around Archway and Junction Road, runs Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm and Saturday 8.30am to 1.30pm. Zone Z around Whitehall Park and Zone TW run 10am to 2pm on weekdays, and Zone U 10am to noon.
  • Zone K, on the Islington side of Highgate Hill by the Whittington Hospital, is controlled 24 hours a day, every day, so there's no quiet hour to load.
  • None of these N19 zones has Arsenal match-day controls. Zones are matched to streets from the council's map, so check the signs at your end of the street.
  • Loading: Islington allows loading before 11am and after controlled hours without a time limit; after 11am, vans and cars get 20 minutes and lorries over 3.5 tonnes 40 minutes (Islington Council: loading and unloading).

Parking

Parking on Moving Day in Camden

On the Camden side, a bay suspension is £79.63 per space per day plus a £66.66 admin fee, booked at least 17 days ahead. For a house move, Camden waives the space charge for the first day only, for up to 3 consecutive spaces, and doesn't apply its short-notice charge; the admin fee still applies (Camden Council: parking bay suspensions, checked 28 October 2026).

  • Tufnell Park (CA-M) runs Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 6.30pm. Dartmouth Park Hill (CA-U(a)) adds Saturday 8.30am to 1.30pm, and the Dartmouth Park streets to its west (CA-U Highgate) run 10am to 12 noon on weekdays. Check your street on Camden's parking map.
  • Holloway Road and Archway Road are TfL red routes; Junction Road, Highgate Hill and Dartmouth Park Hill are not. Red routes are run by TfL, not the council: moving house is a listed reason for a TfL red route dispensation, at £48 a day per vehicle on red lines or £38 in a bay, with at least 6 working days' notice (checked 28 October 2026).
  • The Archway gyratory has gone. Islington's factsheet describes two-way traffic around Navigator Square in its place (Islington Council: transforming Archway).

The homes

Sloping Streets and Victorian Terraces

  • Whitehall Park "slopes considerably, falling from north to south", with three-storey Victorian terraces and villas, some with basements, so the carry and the van position both need thought.
  • Tufnell Park was laid out in the 1860s and 1870s as a residential estate by Lord Tufnell, with villas and three- and four-storey terraces.
  • Junction Road and Holloway Road are lined with shop frontages on busy main roads, so we check where the van can stop before the day.

Archway & Tufnell Park FAQ

Moving in N19: Questions

In Islington, yes: you can park outside your home free of charge when moving, and an unliveried van can stay until 11am, then up to 40 minutes at a time. For a full day, a suspension is £164.80 for the first day (Islington Council, checked 28 October 2026).

Both. Islington's zone map puts the boundary along Junction Road and Brecknock Road, with Dartmouth Park and the streets west of Tufnell Park station in Camden. Tell us your address and we'll confirm which council's rules apply.

Islington's Zone K, on its side of Highgate Hill by the Whittington Hospital, is controlled 24 hours a day, every day, so there's no free window for loading. We plan the parking there in advance.
